About Fuse

Fuse is a group of creative musicians from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Their unusual line up – a string quartet with double bass and percussion – enables them to develop a unique sound and style, intuitively combining influences from classical music, jazz, modern styles and minimal music.

Back home in Holland, Fuse is a regular guest on popular tv-show Podium Klassiek; a weekly live broadcast about music in which Fuse performs and presents their favorite music. It marked their breakthrough to the general public. The group appeared multiple times on Dutch daily talk shows and featured on public radio, in newspapers and magazines. Fuse performed over 1200 shows in nearly 10 years, at a wide range of stages, festivals, concert halls, churches and theaters. In 2019 Fuse received the Public Choice Award at the Classical Edison Awards (Dutch Grammy). Fuse released three albums titled “Studio”, available to listen on all major platforms.

“Fuse has that mysterious ‘extra bit’. The musicians literary fuse when they play together, becoming one musical body. The fun and energy in their performance is infectious. They speak to each other via their instruments. What do they say? You can only guess. They share a secret that draws you in.” – NRC

A Musical Cycle

Mikrokosmos is a collaboration between Fuse, two visual artists and 12 international composers.

The Mikrokosmos composers work together with Fuse to create twelve musical chapters of a human life: we are born, become conscious, learn to interact with others, we get inspired, play, create, fall in love, go through crisis, and dissolve. This approach is a starting point for our creative journey with the composers; a conversation starter about life, creativity and music.

The music evolves
In time we become wiser, more experienced, more mature. The dynamics of these transitions can be described with the four basic elements of Nature: Fire, Earth, Air and Water. In a full life cycle, we go through these four transitions three times.

The cycle complete
This results in 12 phases: Awaken (fire), Ground (Earth), Grow (Air), Animate (Water), Sparkle (Fire), Reflect (Earth), Harmonise (Air)  Transform (Water), Expand (Fire), Crystallize (Earth), Liberate (Air), Dissolve (Water).
